Aunt Jill and Uncle Jake's visit

We had Jill and Jake in town with us last weekend for a nice (not long enough) visit!  We love when Lucy gets to spend time with her cool aunt and uncle from Colorado.  It took Lucy a few minutes to warm up, but as soon as she found out that Jill and Jake would play flashcards, play-doh and duck-duck-goose whenever she asked, she was obsessed.  By the end of the weekend, she preferred Aunt Jill to carry her over me!  It was very sweet.

We had a nice adventure to Millennium Park one afternoon, a trip to the zoo, dinners and brunches out and lots of bonding time with Lucy.....and Jiil and Jake cooked in one night for us (we aren't rude and make all guests staying with us cook, we had a 1st birthday party to attend until 6 and know Jill and Jake are experts in the kitchen) and Mike and Renee came over for a really great night.  Our first dinner party in our new place!

We always love our time with Jill and Jake, it isn't as often as we would like but that makes the visits and holidays together always so meaningful.  We are so happy to go to spend so much time with them and for two people that are on the "no kids" side of the fence, they would make awesome parents because Lucy just adores them!

Cooks in the kitchen - amazing fish tacos!

We miss you guys!! Thanks for the great weekend!!

Happy 4th week!

We had a great 4th of July this year - not very eventful since it fell on a Wednesday and Joe had to work Tuesday and Thursday but we had a fun afternoon with Beth, Rob (although he was "missing" along with Joe at the bars for a good part of the time) and the girls.  While the guys left to go get us dinner and wandered into the Riverview Tavern to make some friends, get some drinks, and discuss going as a couple to a wedding in Napa in September, us ladies had a fun afternoon playing with Lucy's new water table (and early bday gift from them) and the pool/sprinkler.  There was a lot of bubbles, running, noise, and only a little confusion about who was playing with what first :)  It was a fun afternoon!

We are starting to get settled into the new house - still have a folding table in our kitchen - but we are getting there with many trips to Target, Container Store and Home Depot.  The neighbors are great (one family brought up pizza the first night and another family brought us cupcakes) and Lucy already spent an afternoon playing with the kids next door.  There are a lot of kids on the street and the neighborhood is so close to everything - we can walk to some of Lucy's classes, the grocery store, the library, the pool, etc - so we feel very happy here.

Lucy took some time to get adjusted into the new home, or maybe from her various weekends being away from home before the move, or maybe she is just reaching "2" because we had a lot of tantrums the first week.  She doesn't want to get dressed (wants to wear her easter dress every day).....wants to wear her cinderella pajamas out of the house.....doesn't want her hair pulled back....wants certain stuffed animals in her room and other out of her room at night....thinks she is stuck in her car seat and needs her arms freed....and thinks her clothes are all too tight on her.  But, she is sweet as ever and we usually just laugh at how particular she is becoming.

We have an exciting week ahead - Jill and Jake are coming to stay with us for a few days!!! We are looking forward to spending some time with them and Lucy getting to see her aunt and uncle :)

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Lu's early bday gift from the girls - a water table!!

Playing with the slide/pool - more fun than we would have thought in that little pool!

The girls - should have taken in front of our Flag, but up against our lovely wall

A pic of Lu in her new room - I love the cute walls. Can't take any credit for them as they were already painted, but she loves them and I love walking into her room every morning :)

Another pic

Most kids want a stuffed animal in bed but Lucy brings the most random things into bed, including her inflatable chair from Nana/Papa's house. I had to start hiding it.  Same for her ceramic pig she used to bring in bed after we closed the door. Now, it is her toothbrush and playdough tubes.
